The reason I ask, I had my kitchen floor tiled 7 months ago, it was done directly on to the T&G chipboard which was well secured down, we now have hair line cracks appearing through some of the tiles, any ideas why?

it sounds to me like the floor was not strong enough. To tile straight to chipboard - and many tilers on these forums will not do it - you MUST have a rigid floor and you MUST use appropriate adhesives and grout. if the area is quite large, more than 3 or 4 m2 then almost certainly you would need to strengthen the floor by overboarding. Was the floor subfloor new?

I think the harsh weather could throw up a few more instances of this before the summer comes eh Grumps?
