How slowly can you tile?
I am disabled and I want to do a tiling job myself, but it will take me some considerable time (and I mean days!). I am no stranger to DIY projects, but I have never done any tiling. From what I know generally about laying tiles you put on an area of tile adhesive and then add tiles, then grout eventually. I don't know if it's because it's not possible or because most people would do a whole wall in one go anyway that they show a large area being prepped. Would it be possible to tile a piece of wall by adding a couple of tiles a day till it's all done? What if you prepped an area then couldn't tile it, would you then have to chip off a load of dried adhesive to start again? I need to add a few more tiles to my bathroom wall so that I can make my shower more disabled-friendly (i.e. not have an access point up against the loo!) and I can't afford to have anyone do it for me. What is the biggest job that needs doing all at once? Would it just look awful if it were done in pieces like that?

Re: How slowly can you tile?
As slow as you like. You could prep the area prior to adding any adhesive or tile. Then you can put the tiles in one at a time at your own speed.Maybe spreading the adhesive onto the back of each tile instead of the wall. That way you can just push and twist each tile onto the wall whenever you feel like it.Just don't mix up too much adhesive each time you want to tile.I would recommend that when you come to grout ( after all the tile is in ) that is is done all at the same time but even this can be done slowly even though timing becomes more of an issue.

Re: How slowly can you tile?
Where are you based, Rose? Maybe there is someone on here who could give a helping hand?
From a financial point of view, if you are registered as disabled, you should be able to have necessary work done for free, do ask your carer or social services contact to give you a contact number to call, or contact the CAB for advise.
However, good on you for wanting to tackle this by yourself in whichcase I second all advise given above my R Montgomery.
Good luck and let us know how you got on!

Re: How slowly can you tile?
LOL you have to be disabled in exactly the way that the government deems acceptable AND you have to be in certain types of housing or else have adaptations that cannot be deemed to be an improvement to your property. Having a fully tiled bathroom wall instead of a half-tiled wall is considered an "improvement" even though it would be in non-matching budget white tiles - not exactly going to add thousands to my house value!
I quite like dabbling in jobs because then I can look back on it and say "I did that" - but not if they turn out rubbish! I have been boarding the loft for the last 8 years and have done about 40% cos first up I have to get into the loft - quite a challenge in a wheelchair!!

Re: How slowly can you tile?
You can go as slow as you want. Just remember the open time of the adhesive which is usualy 20 mins, but as long as you close the lid each time no problem.
