    Default Advice please

    Hi everyone,

I need to lay a floor over existing cermic floor tiles. The tiles are in good order and have been laid on a concrete floor. I will probably be using slate. What do you recommend I should do? By the way the floor used to have an oak covering and when it was removed there is a thick coat of rubbery dpa on it so I imagine that tiling directly on top of this is a no no.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Cheers

    Mike

I would take up the old tiles to save any chance of failure, It would then save the hassle of trying to remove the dpa

I'm with whitebeam, rip up the old tiles, 'specially if you are going to fix slate. You want a nice finish, so do the job right first time.

    Good luck.

Hi Dave, thanks I have registered now.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Obviously I want to save having to rip up floor tiles which is a pain in the @rse. Can I get away with putting a wooden base down? If that's OK, what is the best method?

Hey Captain Slow I see you are a pro in the Cambridgeshire area! I live in Huntingdon, I couldn't put some business your way could I?
