What adhesive did you use? Why didn't you straighten out the wall first?

I used a ready mixed adhesive & did not realise walls were so uneven. It is supposed to set in 24 hours under normal conditions.

You will, in all probability have problems here. Tubbed stuff dries by evaporation and the areas that are thickly applied will not only take an age to dry, but they will probably shrink and crack too. This may lead to your tiles falling off.

D&D method is not a recognised method of tile fixing for the following reasons

1- You will not achieve the desired coverage to support the tiles wieght and could lead to tile failure.
2- In some cases the tile will appear patchy like you are experincing.
3- If you attempt drill through the tile it could crack.
4- You just shouldnt do it.

In addition you have not used the correct adhesive for the job so i would be inclined to redo the job.

However you wont be the first or the last to fix by d&d.

Looky see here at this picture:
You can see how the addy is all cracked before it dried out.
Tubbed gear is normally only effective at 3mm depth.
