Default Tiling under the shower tray?

We have recently tiled the floor in the bathrom including the area that will be under the shower tray (have left opening for the shower waste). We have been told by a friend that the tiles under the shower tray should be removed as this will cause cracks to happen to the tiles under and surrounding the shower and also the grout.
The shower tray is flat to the floor (no feet) and is made of stone resin
The tiles are currently on chip board covered in plywood. They have been laid with a flexible sealant and flexible grout. Any advice? I think that removing the tiles will cause more damage and will leave an uneven surface to base the shower tray on.

i have tiled like this for some one in the past and as long as the tiles were laid on a decent bed of adhesive you should be ok, try make sure the tray is adhered all over the bottom so no individual points meet the floor causing pressure spots.i think there are a few reasons this normally does nt happen like this. 1 the plumber normaly gts there first. 2 most shower trays out last the colour choice of the tiles(god bless women) 3 people dont want to spend the extra money for the tiles you cant see!!

however the reasons for ripping it up that i can see are 1 possibility of cracking tiles 2 when you want to change the flooruing you may have to rip up the shower tray

hope this helps although i know there is an argument for both cases

Thanks for the reply bigandy. Much appreciated. What would be the best type of adhesive to attach the shower tray to the tiles with?

I agree, plenty of silicone. I just cut the cap off the cartridge and squirt it on without using the nozzle. Fitted many dozens of shower trays this way without a single problem or complaint.
