    Default Hello DIY Tilers.

Hello to all you have a go hero's out there. Just thought it would be good for anyone doing their own floors/walls etc to leave some feedback on how they found it. If you found it easy and don't know what the fuss is all about, if you found it a challenge but dealt with it well or if you never wanna see a tile again as long as you live. Not sure if pictures can be posted in this section but if they can wouldn't be a bad idea for you to post your hard work in here for some feedback from the professionals. (me excluded )

I found this thread whilst poking around in the Tags area so let me be the first to post my feedback.

Hubby and I embarked on an 11m2 kitchen floor about 3 weeks before Christmas. After posting some pics and talking to a lot of different people on here, I finally plucked up the courage to go to Topps, spoke to a heavily pierced young man in there where I purchased BAL rapidset and BAL primer. The floor tiles were from B&Q but I now know better than to buy from a DIY shed.

Hubby then took over as "Ultimate Control Freak" and proceeded to cut and lay the tiles, with me having the ever so glamorous job of mixing the adhesive, whilst under his strict instruction of course!

After the event, I am pleased with the floor, even more chuffed knowing that we took on the challenge and got a good result from it. We shall be embarking on further tiling projects, however I shall be doing copious amounts of research first, finding the right products, tiles etc.

    Nice one GRR!

It's actually quite enjoyable doing a job with the wife. My wife is quite practically minded and no doubt could have helped in this respect. She doesn't give herself enough credit.

in 2007 she helped me cast a new concrete floor. She mixed the concrete to my recipie and we managed to get it done in a day. The following day we did the screed.

She didn't move for days LOL but she did a really good job - the mix was perfect!

thinking about it you're right, we couldn't have done the screed the following day as the concrete was still green, must have been a few days later.

I've slept since then, so I can't remember how soon we did it after, probably too soon to be by the book, but it's still fine. It's our utility room that is the extension to our basement. It is a 13x 13 room that was actually excavated from underneath our lounge, house was underpinned to give us the depth then we tanked the walls, then put the floor down using insulation and membrane etc.
