Red face how to lay porcelain tiles?

I plan to attempt to lay porcelain tiles on the walls and floor of my new kitchen (different designs). The floor is level concrete. The walls will be newly plastered. Any valuable hints and tips? I've never tiled before (I'm a girl)!

I know to start in the middle, I've got a diamond tipped wet tile cutter (B&Q bargain as it was on offer), and I know to avoid small cuts at the edges.

I'd like advice on what to look out for- where I might come unstuck if I didn't know any better!

Looking forward to all your help!

Where abouts are you in the country? If close enough to someone on here maybe someone would be kind enough to pop round quickly and talk you through things?

i was told that before you tile onto fresh plaster you had to allow 28 days for it to settle otherwise the movement (ie the possiblity of it cracking) may cause them to basically fall off?
