Yeah for that type of system they're the best available.
But you still need to set the tile to its correct position before tightening them.
But what they'll do is guide you as to where the tile needs to be, because they won't tighten correctly unless the tile is set right.
Does that make any kind of sense?
You need to make sure that you mix the adhesive with the maximum water content as stated, and keep mixing the bucket throughout, to keep the adhesive as loose as possible.
DO NOT add extra water after the initial mix if it starts to stiffen, just re mix it and it'll loosen up again, unless it's at the point of setting.
And you will need standard set adhesive, not rapid.

hello, I did have one question about the packers, I understand that I need to ensure the packers are level starting from the high point, going across, but I am wondering if for example I have 3 row of packers at 600mm intervals, do I need to ensure that the 1st row of packers is exactly level with the 3rd row of packers, using the level up the room & diagonally? I did a quick sketch to show what I mean.

Yes, working from the high point, the packers should all be level no matter where you put your level. So say your corner packer is the high point then the next row along should be level.

So effectively once you have fixed all your packers it shouldn't matter where you put your level on top of the packers it will be at the same height as your corner point

All the packers would be placed level with the very first one laid, so if you placed three more down at 600mm intervals, the first maybe 3mm high off your floor,whereas the second and third maybe 6mm and 2mm respectively.
You only need a 1-2mm packer at your start point, just high enough to give the minimum thickness as stated on your bag of slc.
If it'll go from feather edge to its maximum, then 1mm would suffice.
As others have mentioned tho, the thinner it is the more difficult it is to get flat and the quicker it will begin to dry, and you need to keep a wet edge, as you've found out.

Yeh to go over the Slc in preparation for the next layer, I'll need to mix with 3 parts water won't i?

Yes mate, 3:1 with water then use a roller and cover the whole floor with it
