Hi guys,

Looking at getting into doing some geometric/Victorian floor tile but would like to go on a course and see some done first hand before I tackled one myself. Have seen that Able skills offer a 5 day course for this skill set and wondered if any of you had any feedback or experience of this? Cost is about £700 which seemed reasonable if the course is good or is there a better way for me to go about learning the art?

Cheers

I did a 5 day victorian geometric course with another company which I enjoyed. Its not easy, and with any short course youll just learn the basics, but its a start.
Its very specialised and easy to get wrong. If you can work with or shadow someone who does a lot of them that would be great.
Its something you have to love doing.
I do the odd one as i dont specialise in it, mosaics are my thing.

It's obvious that the floor needs to be pretty much perfect. I don't see why it's any more specialist than any other fidly tile job, I would do one no problem. Guess it depends on how good you are at your job

Over the past 10 years this forum has attracted some fantastic tilers / trades people and It's also attracted some cranks too BUT! of all the people who have posted, I can honestly say that there's only 2 who could be described as "absolute masters at their trade"

One is Phil Hobson
And the other is Timeless John

So when a person makes a claim about an area of tile that they have not even done yet and a person shows you a piece of work like the above, I hope you all know which one to trust.

Seen a few pictures on here of geometric floors done by so called experienced tilers and they've made a right balls up!
