Default Insulation board - is this one any good?

Hello all - Going to have a kitchen tiled onto concrete surface and have UFH. Seen this stuff Ekoboard. Underfloor Heating | Floor Insulation | Uheat

It's less than half the price of Marmox. The difference is that there is no rigid layer either side, and according to the manufacturers the tile adhesive either side makes it rigid enough. It does need to be used only with flat surface like a concrete slab or a screeded surface I guess like latex.

Has anyone used it and what do you think?

    Yeah that's the stuff.

Marmox can be used as a sort of tile backer board as well as an insulation board, if you're using it for an insulation board though you don't need to pay the extra and get marmox just for the backing which you don't need. So Ekoboard all the way for me.

The compressive strength is the same too.

And think of it like this, a 10mm marmox board has 8mm of insulation in it, a 10mm ekoboard has 10mm insulation.

I was just thinking the same - about all the thickness being taken up with the insulative material. My only worry was no rigidity in the event that old tiles don't come up clean and screed isn't 100% level.

I used some recently 30mm thick. i was a little unsure and you need to be careful not to damage it while walking on it but after the UFH was laid and covered with Mapei Renovation Screed SLC it was sound

I prefer the cement faced boards.. IMO the adhesive will get a stronger bond.. just my opinion though.. Underfloor Heating | Floor Insulation | Marmox | Uheat

I have used boards like that before and got called back as they had chipped a tile to replace it. well it came up with just a sucker once the grout had been used! the ady was the correct one used and it had full coverage on the tile but it came away cleanly.
    I havent used them since.

To be honest dave i cant remember it was about 8 yrs ago i used them, all i can remember is that the company also supplied there own addy which was spf and ther installation instructions and if they were primed it would most probs have been with pva back then from what i can remember they were quite shiney on there surfaces and blue in colour, like i said i havent used them since... They are probably alot better now but once bitten twice shy
