Relay/Contactor Advice
Hello all
I have bought some Heatmiser 12v Network Thermostats and need to use one of these to actuate my underfloor heating (240V/2KW so that is roughly 8A).
I am therefore looking at 12V Relays or Contactors that would be able to switch this on. From reading through some of the threads, it seems a relay would be better if possible. I have found the following from Maplin which is 15A so lots of spare capacity:
The bit that concerns me is the "Maximum switching power 450W resistive" - sounds like it won't handle the load or would it? (Maplins also do a 30A one but the resistive is 840W).
Alternatively RS do one but there is no mention of resistive load:
I'd be so grateful if someone could point me in the right direction as am a bit confused!Last edited by GirlRacerRed; 11-08-2010 at 01:42 PM. Reason: links to other websites removed.

I think you might be best asking an electrician these questions also. Some electricians are members of this forum, however, you could always try our sister forum

Re: Relay/Contactor Advice
hi mate.
not being funny but unless you are a electrician you should not be doing this work, the customer has to have this signed off by a electrinian ang give a cert to say all is well . i fitt loads of heating mats but would never under take what you are doing!!

Re: Relay/Contactor Advice
Thanks for the advice - have to admit it's not something that I see as too complicated to fit, just a case of getting the right part. I now have the part!
In any case, it is getting signed off by an electrician so no need to worry but you are right in that it's not for everyone to try, I have some previous electronics experience!
Thanks again
