Re: ufh burnout
Wow. Shocking.
You can't allow the wires to touch, the heat from ufh needs to disperse through a solid material. If you even held a cable in your hand while on it could get pretty hot, let alone two touching which would build up more heat.
If three or more were touching, and touching metal frames for the bath, it could be a serious accident waiting to happen.
The kit needs to be changed for one that fits. DO NOT TILE IT like it is.DanTilersForums.co.uk Owner

Re: ufh burnout
There are some heat mats available now that dont need to be 100% covered.
Not sure which ones though, and the manufacturers instructions should ALWAYS be followed.

Re: ufh burnout
Yer i know Dave, but im sure there is a mat now that if you have too much left over, it doesnt have to be covered with anything.
I could of course be talking complete ****e, as i avoid the dam stuff at ALL costs.Spark And A Half

Re: ufh burnout
I have recently had a problem with this.
I got a call from a large construction company we constantly work for.
The Snagging manager stated that all of a sudden 9 months after installation, the warmup kit we installed had failed.
Anyway I rang warmup who charged me the delightful fee of £250 to have a look.
It turns out that my tiler had run the 15 sq m kit out as normal, then tiled using Carrara Marble from Mandarin.
The problem arose when he left an area uncovered at the end termination of the cable ( the weakest point )
So basically he dot and dabbed about 4 sq inches under the bath slightly because the end of the cable has a bigger diameter.
I know sometimes these ends are quite tricky sometimes, nut could of easily been solved by cutting a channel in the wedi board.
So, slab was replaced, re grouted & re sealed. 1 lesson learnt.
If you do not want hot spots, follow instructions.
Small simple mistake cost £250 of hard earned cash.
All the best Lee
