| Undertile Heating | | hi all,
thanks for all the hellos, just joined last nite and already a query!
Am fairly new to the trade and have just landed a ufh job recently. am happy with the installation of the ufh but customer wants to use 18mm exterior ply boards on a concrete substrate instead of insulation board (cost thing). Height wise this works ok but am just not sure on the best way of fixing the ply to the substrate, any ideas?

the cat
Totally pointless exercise boarding over the concrete with plywood,it wont work much as an insulation. If the customer won't board out in insulation board he obviously isn't bothered about the cost to heat 4 inch or more of concrete,in which case just tile the concrete....he will realise the boards would have been a good investment when he gets his next electric bill....Gaz |

the cat
There is no benefit to be had by facing the floor in plwood,it is not worth the expense of buying it ,nor laying it by whichever method you choose...hope your customer can see sense. Surely Cat he should heed your professional advise !...regards Gaz |

Just tell him he will recoup the cost of the correct board within about 6 months because of the extra cost of heating his foundations if he doesn't go that way. Or, don't do the job! If anything goes wrong if it is done his way, you are the first person he will be whining to!
