Hello All

As a competent DIY tiler I still found a wealth of good practices and tips from you guys. OK, thats enough ego stroking!

I am about to lay UHF in my kitchen, utility and cloakroom, about 17m2 in total and am wondering how to install the temperature probe to obtain he best temp.

I have the conduit in which to insert the probe and the instructions say I should block off the end (to prevent adhesive fixing the probe in the conduit obviously).

Do any of you have any tips regarding the best way to install and locate the probe to get the best temp feedback?

For instance I was considering a thin protective cover to allow the probe to be positioned in an open air space cavity between insulation and tile. Or does it not really matter.

I appreciate this is more of an electrical question than a tiling one but any comments would be appreciated.

Have a read of this installation manual from our UFH sponsor and it will give you the correct mewthods......the probe should go inbetween the elements but have a read and if you are still stuck then we can help more...

Hi Ewan,
The important part of this probe buisness is to have cable close enough to it to pick up an accurate reading. Where your controller is situated, the probe should sit from the wall at approx 1foot, if you place it in either a plastic or metal conduit, this will enable you to slide it out should it ever become faulty. Then wind your cables about 3/4 cm either side if it when running the cables......Gaz

Thanks for the speedy responses. I have read the literature and noted Gaz's tips, which I understand and am familiar with.

The crux of my query is - Should the probe tip be located inside the conduit pipe or should I try to leave a void so that the probe can get unhindered contact with the radiated heat from the cables?

Previous experience (in a former life as an electronic engineer) leads me to think the latter would be better in theory but does it really matter?

The tip of the probe dosn't need to be exposed, it will pick up the heat at that point in the floor regardless.....Gaz

The probe should inserted into the conduit pipe...the conduit should have the end taped over to prevent adhesive going in..this then enables the sensor probe to be renewed should it ever fail......
The conduit with the probe inside should extend into the floor for about 300mm to 400mm and be laid in the same direction as the cables thus lying in between a run of cable so that it pics the temerature up......
