    Default Being relocated to Sydney

Hi al my Mrs is a solicitor for a major bank i currently run a tiling company here in the UK along with my brother and father.

She has been asked to move to Sydney mid June and I will be added as de facto on her 457 Visa.

I would like to work in Sydney but would like good people of this site to offer advise on some questions i have.

    Thank you

1 How is the work out there what's the best way acquire work.
2 What qualifications or certificates would i need to work on sites.
3 Should i bring my tools or just buy when i get out there.
4 What's the Average price per m2 or is it paid hourly
5 Is it worth preparing anything now or should i wait till i get out there ie AQF.

i will only be staying out there for 6 month so if there is anything you could recommend that may help i would appreciate it.

    Many Thanks
    Wez

If you work for an employer, you don't necessarily need any qualifications, certificates as such.

If you want to work as a contractor, you will probably need a license (see link below).

Having formal qualifications (AQF III) will of course give you a much better chance to secure a job.

You will need the AQF III to get a Trade Certificate through Trades Recognition Australia.

Bring references and evidence of your experience/ qualifications.

If you have time, try this company Home » Tradesrecognition so you know what paperwork is required and what to bring with you.

You can contact me directly and I will send you the e-mail of the manager of this company, either in UK or Australia.

Good luck mate, I'd love to go to Oz and work for a while. Got a family now so not quite as tie free as I was a few years back.

It is probably more expensive to ship your tools over than buying new ones.Plus you will need to put different plugs/adaptors on your power tools.

You should be able to get your basic tools for $ 1000-$ 1500 (grinder, mixer, tile cutter, trowels, levels etc.)

Have a look at the links below to get an idea of prices :

Tilers Trade Shop - Tilers supplies and tiling tools for tradesmen needing screeds, trowels, floats, Grout Boats, saws, blades, cutters, grout, glue, sealers or anything to do with tiling!
