Getting into Australia with a Skilled Sponsored Visa - Family Sponsorship visa.
Hi There I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have been a self employed tiler for nearly a year now and would love to emmigrate to aus with this as my trade. I have lots of family that live in queensland 3 aunts 3 uncles loads of cousins and my nan. I am aware i dont have the relevant amount of experience to work in aus through the skilled visa route.
I have done some research on the skilled family sponsor visa but im not exactly sure what I would actually need to do. I have been told I need the following.
- At least 1 years experience in tiling
- NVQ level 3
-A family member in aus who is willing to be a named sponsor ( i will need to show a copy of their passport)
Basically that all the information i know . Im going to see a registered immigration agent later in the month but would like to know a bit more about it as the info i have is pretty vague.
If anyone knows much about this type of visa i would be very gratefull of your feedback.
many Thanks
Mike

Get in touch with the forum sponsor that deals with migration to oz. Just click on the sponsor link on the left hand side, I've heard they're quite good.

Skilled-Sponsored Visa (176)
In order to qualify for this visa you need to meet the following criteria :
At the time of application:
-you must be under 45 years of age at the time you lodge your visa application.
-you must list an occupation from the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
-you must have a positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation
-you must have vocational or competent English
-you must have been employed in “a skilled occupation” for at least 12 of the 24 months before application
At the time of decision:
-you must have a score of at least 100 in the GSM point test
-you must be sponsored by a relative in Australia or you must have been nominated by a State or Territory government and the sponsorship or nomination must have been accepted.
-all applicants must meet health, character and public interest criteria.
Note: for State or Territory nomination there are additional requirements which can differ for each State or Territory.
The point system is under review and the proposed new point system appears to be much harder for trades people.Qualified Wall and Floor Tiler

Australian Visa Wizard - Visas & Immigration
Try this, you might find that if you skills are not on "the list" you would not be eligible.
If you can get sponsored by an employer then you do not have to be on the skills list.
Lots of building over here after all the floods cyclones and bush fires. Good luck

1) Wall and Floor Tiler (ANZSCO 333411 ) is in fact on the SOL
2) By all means try the visa wizard to get some general ideas, but don't rely on it
3) To be able to be employer sponsored your occupation must in fact also be on a list of prescribed occupations, except for the regional sponsored ones (RSMS)
4) You will need formal qualifications and/or extensive work experience for employer sponsored visas
5) You must find an employer who is willing to give you a 2 or 3 year contract and who is also willing to wait 6 to 8 months while your visa is being processedQualified Wall and Floor Tiler

I have just read about the new points, and from what i can work out it looks like you will only need 65 points, which is better, but i think that you will have to score really high on the english language ability , speaking & reading, and also points for work experience are better if you have had alot of experience.

Re: Getting into Australia with a Skilled Sponsored Visa - Family Sponsorship visa.
You are correct on the score for the proposed new points test : passmark is 65 points.
Some of the changes :
-no points for occupation !
-age is extended to 49, but no points for those aged 44-49
-highest score for those aged between 33-39 (30 points)
-10 or 20 points for those who score high in English language tests (IELTS)
A 35 year old tiler with AQF III and 3 years work experience and proficient English (IELTS 7) will still only score 55 points under the new points test.
Under the old point test( passmark 120) the same person would score 120 points.
There are extra points for state sponsorship, but also a whole new set of state/territory specific requirements.Last edited by nvoorst; 19-02-2011 at 11:13 PM.

Re: Getting into Australia with a Skilled Sponsored Visa - Family Sponsorship visa.
so why is a country, who requires experienced trades people making it more DIFFICULT for trades people to enter? completely bloody barmy, they either want us or they dont. Look at the unfortunate circumstances in Queensland, those people are going to want their lives back on track quick smart, but the bloody government is making it harder to get skilled people in........ PUZZLED? I AM.

Re: Getting into Australia with a Skilled Sponsored Visa - Family Sponsorship visa.
I agree, it is a crazy situation and very short-sighted. It's something called politics. Politicians unfortunately are not always quite in touch with the real world the rest of us live in...
There was also a scam going on for a few years, where thousands of overseas students doing courses like hairdressing and cooking were eligible to apply for general skilled migration.Australia did not need thousands of cooks (not chefs !) and hairdressers, so that whole scheme has been knocked on the head now and many professions and trades have been removed from the skilled occupation list.Looks like they threw the baby out with the bath water !
I think currently the general idea is to force would be migrants into the state and employer sponsored streams, so that they are more or less guaranteed a job, when they get here.
