Re: need help please
dave you dont need an nvq you need a afq111 which when your in oz as i am you carnt get until you get a job and you cant get a job until you have an aqf111 been here 4 months still no job thinking of coming home as wifs mother is not well and you dont know what you had until you dont have it,we have a 10 year old who has settled well as the schools are to years behind if your lucky so he is the top of his class and this is a private school, the state schools are worse first weeks home work was the 3 times table which he done when he was about6.its a lonley place when you dont have family and freinds here. jason

Re: need help please
You don't need any formal qualifications to work as a tiler in Australia, as long as you work for someone who is licensed. But obviously employers are more picky at the moment, so you gotta sell yourself and convince them you can do the job. As long as you have experience, qualifications don't matter. In most states you can work directly for the public on small jobs (in QLD it is up to $ 3300) without a license or qualifications. Just make sure you have public liability insurance. Things are a bit slack in the construction industry at the moment, although places like Perth and Darwin are booming. There will be another boom, so don't despair. In the meantime, advertise locally for small jobs, regrouts, repairs, little patios, etc. You can still get $ 350 for a shower regrout/reseal. It's not the best of work, but it will keep you alive.Hang in there, things will get better. If you want to talk to someone who is been through many ups and downs in Oz as far as tiling goes , feel free to contact me.
