Adelaide bound
Hi,
Finally decided to migrate after years of shall we's or shan't we's! My wife is the main applicant being a nurse and the intention was for me to find work as and when i could, with no pressure! That was 2 years ago when everything seemed much cheaper and work was plentiful. Now I'm going to need to work from the word go. Can anybody give me an idea of what I could expect to earn as a qualified and experienced tiler in and around Adelaide (especially South Adelaide), and the availability of work at the moment.
Thanks

Re: Adelaide bound
its good to see people going to adelaide and not the usual syd/bris/perth as adelaide is by far the nicest place to live- affordable housing-great beaches-the hills-no tollways etc etc.i just priced up 6 houses there $40 m2 on big floor areas ,$50 m2 on wet areas ,rectified tiles, and $600 per house for waterproofing ,screeding floors and bricking up bath(with hebel).these are builders prices ,including materials ,plus gst(10%).domestic bathrooms i would charge around$60 per m2 plus materials plus tax. there seems to be plenty of work around still but you do need a licence to work in sa ,otherwise you cant advertise and customers have no legal obligation to pay you!! pm me if you need more details. the south side of adelaide is where i used to live and is much nicer than the north

Alex thats a great post. is this a good guide for prices over all oz or just in SA? and do you personally know how the trade is doing in WA? Do you ever use the Australian forum? It seems to lack posters from Australia it's self!! lol

Re: Adelaide bound
every state seems to have different prices ,but also diff tecniques- in vic there are no falls on wet area floors and hence no screeding of cement to create falls, and baths are framed by carpenters whereas other states have falls and tiler bricks up the bath which makes the job harder and more expensive. waterproofing is not the same in sa vic or nsw -which also has building inspectors checking it. where i live in northwest vic i get $37 per m2 for floors and bathroomsin new houses inc materials plus gst. 300km north in broken hill nsw i get 40 labour only, plus gst. in vic i get around $45 for private bathrooms,up north i get $65. as for perth ,i have heard of some realy good money being made there but with the mining boom hitting the wall i dont know how long that will last.
one thing with licences you need one in sa nsw and qld and of course each state requires a seperate one and therehard to get but there is no such thing in vic-just advertise and go for it!!
there have been other posts here about qld -i think mick the tiler did a good one
