unfortunately tiling isn't a green ticket to open the australia embassy doors. folks going over there think it will be like it was on their holiday. full of bbqs and outdoor life. when you have to earn a living its diff and while aussies don't hate poms they'd prefer to hire an australian. most people who go ever come back sooner or later

That's a bit of a strange statement. I am Dutch originally and I have been tiling here for over 20 years. Nationality never was an issue. Most "Australian" tilers were originally Italians anyway. (and of course nearly every Italian is a painter or a tiler or both...)

Here in Cairns, there are quite a few English tilers, as well as Spanish, Danish, Italian, Korean, Thai, German etc.

Provided you can make yourself understood, know your trade and have a pleasant attitude, I don't think people care what nationality you are.
