help!! in sydney on working holiday visa...
hi folks. not been on for a while coz i was gettin organised moving over here etc... anyway!!
i arrived in Sydney 2 weeks ago on a working holiday visa (1 year visa). I may plan on staying here longer depending on sponsorship etc etc.
I am laboring for a guy at the moment and he used to be a tiler (he renovates houses now, does everything!!) if he could get me some tiling jobs am i allowed to work for him eventhough i dont have qualifications? (done the nett course last year).
also could he sponsor me to stay here permenantly if he likes my work or wuld i have to get qualifications?
its so confusing all this lark lol
cheers anyway

I'm not too familar with the building act in the state of NSW, but here in Queesland, you can only work for somebody as a tiler if he or she is a licensed builder or at the very least be licensed as a floor and wall tiler. I assume it would be similar down in NSW although I might be wrong. You most certainly not work direct to the public if you only have a work visa.

Re: help!! in sydney on working holiday visa...
Hi Pete,
I have got to say from the outset I don't like some of the sponsored visa's.
The reason being, is that in some cases if your sponsor goes out of business or you just cannot bear having to work for them. anymore...you 28 days to find a new sponsor and get the visa sorted!!!
or get out of Australia!!
If you are single and and don't care you may be alright.
But my advice is go for a skilled independant visa. You are beholden to no one...you can do as you please when you get it.
How much experience and what qualifications do you have?
The biggest problem is the 'skills assessment' and believe me mate you will need good solid advice to get through that.
I deal with them on a daily basis for many trades and they are not easy!
While you are in OZ there are many other things you can be doing to secure more points with a future application.
Unfortunately you are in the wrong place (NSW) for State assistance.
Don't forget if you get the right references from a 'Construction Industry' occupation in Regional Australia you could extend your 417 visa for another year!

Hi Pete,
While you are in OZ make sure you get your AQF 3 mate.
It will save you a bundle in the long run, if you want to stay out there.
Silver Trowel can sort you out. If you want more details and what to do, let me know .
