What is the minimum amount of years that you have to be working as a tiler for before you can apply for a visa now?

    My husband was assessed for his AQF in October and was successful. He passed his TRA in November. He had to show a minimum of 4 years experience, get references from customers and contractors, give details of training/learning etc. He had to complete some questions re skills knowledge and health & safety which were checked and marked by his assessor. The assessor then went on a couple of his jobs to watch him in action and went and photographed some jobs he did a while ago. The areas you have to show competency in for AQF III are;

    Follow OH&S policies and procedures
Work effectively in the general construction industry
    Plan and organise work
    Conduct workplace communication
    Carry out measurements and calculations
Read and interpret plans and specifications
    Apply basic levelling procedures
Handle wall and floor tiling materials
Use wall and floor tiling tools & equipment
    Prepare surfaces for tiling application
    Fix floor tiles
    Fix wall tiles
    Repair wall and floor tiles
    Carry out mosaic tiling
    Tile curved surfaces
Apply waterproofing process to internal wet areas
Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
    Operate elevated work platforms
Carry out concreting to simple forms
    Carry out decorative tiling
    Tile domestic pools and spas
    Research business opportunities

Most of the evidence gathered for the AQF can be used for the TRA application too.

    Hiya doing Nicky.

I'm am preparing for my AQFIII assessment in the coming weeks, I have a good experience of all aspects required and have done some internet study on the areas I'm weak at. I am worried that I haven't enough knowledge about specific Australian tiling standards for the following eg. putting in expansion joints, sizes of steps, tiling curves, pools, falls on floors for drainage, any info from your husbands experience would help greatly.

    Thanks

Hi Guys, Yes you do have to have certified certificates.

Make sure they are correctly worded. It's something I do daily for my clients.

Just to give you some processing times my latest tiler got his 175 yesterday! Application submitted Oct 2009. AQFIII obtained June 2009, TRA positive skills assessment July 2009.

Remember every person's circumstances are different its not One size fits all!!

    Best of luck

It costs 1950 GPB, you need at lease 4 years experience, you are assessed on site, must provide pics of work, references from other tradespeople and do a lengthy open book written assessment.

I'm doing it throught Tradetrain Australia.

    Best of luck
