hi there..try this it might help.....

AUSTRALIAN SKILLED VISAS – SKILLED VISA REQUIREMENTS

All applicants for skilled visas must be able to demonstrate the following basic requirements:

Age - Applicants must be at least 18 years old and younger than 45 at the time of application.

English language - In most cases, applicants must have “functional” or "vocational" English. This means that they must speak English well enough to communicate in a work environment in Australia.

Nominated occupation -In order to apply for a skilled visa, applicants must nominate an occupation that appears on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Those with professions that are not on the list are not eligible to apply. Once applicants nominate an occupation, they must have their skills assessed by a government appointed Australian Assessing Authority in order to determine if their skills are appropriate for this visa type.

Qualifications -In order to qualify for most kinds of skilled visas, applicants must have either university or trade qualifications. There are some exceptions in a small number of occupations, where substantial work experience might suffice. The relevant Skills Assessment Authority will assess all certificates and work experience skills.

Recent work experience - Applicants are required to have recent work experience in their nominated occupation at the time the visa is lodged. However, this requirement is waived for students with Australian qualifications (generally onshore applicants).

Recent work experience exemption - Applicants who have studied for at least two years in Australia may have the work experience requirement waived if they lodge their skilled visa application within six months of completing their studies.

I emmigrated in 2001 but my tiling experience meant nothing, we went over due to meeting the points system because my ex wife was a nurse. No problems getting work though.

you need NVQ and 1 yrs experience post NVQ to get state sponsorship anything before NVQ counts for nothing.
Or try the 457 visa but this way you need a employer to sponsor you in on a temporary basis up to 4 yrs but you can apply for permanent residence after i think 12 months GOOD LUCK.

he could always hop on to a plane and fly here ,then find a tiling company/builder who will take him on (but he cant be paid) and try the sponsership route ,as there would be a severe trades shortage in many states

i've just been speaking to my cousin in brisbane - he reckons sponsorship is best, if not you need qualifications
on another note - he says tilers earn about 1500 aus dollars - about £650/£750 a week

the employee tilers i know are on 50 -60000 ayear although rates would be a bit higher in queensland.self employed can make 2 to 3000 a week if you can pick up the quality work-like high meterages in new houses

you cant get into australia with an nvq2 , period...

the rules changed as od 1/9/2007.....you need to wait for the immigration laws to revert back. the TRA are up in arms regarding this new rule. there is hope that it will change this year but you are up against the clock with 45 looming. i would get on a plane with a 3 month visa, go around all the sites etc and try and get a sponsorship. you have to work for the employee for 3 years, thats the downside.

if a tiling course says you can get in with an nvq, then they are mis informing you meryl. you need 900 hours college with endensured apprenticeship. there is no way around this as yet. i have an contact in sydney who i am in contact with weekly and nobody knows the ssystem better than this guy.

if the law does change this year, then you have to prove you have been in employment as a tiler for 20 hours a week for 1yr minimum. they will require evidence. payslips, bank statements etc etc. you need to act fast to get in, or theres always new zealand as aportal route, think there cut off age is 55. many people get into aus via this route...

get on a plane and get a sponsorship. if your husbands a good tiler then they'll snap him up.

ed
