Sorry mate i already read that but i still don't understand.I don't know nothing about the qualifications. It says i need AN AQF Certificate III?So an NVQ is no good?I see that they say you may not need a qualification.Do they just assess your work or do you have to have so many years experience?Have they anyway to check how long you have been Tiling for?

hi knifey spooney

unfortunately, you will have difficulty getting a permanent residents visa because australia has recently (o1st sept 2007) changed its criteria for working as a tiler. you now have to have 900 proven hours of college to prove you are skilled. if you have done your nvq via college day release then give one of the agents a call. try this guy Lawrence robertson at overseas immigration on 0131 625 6909 and tell him about your background/ history in tiling and he will put you straight. apparently this new restriction has caused alot of grif in aus and it seems it will get lifted sooner rather than later, allowing experienced only workers to re-apply. you may get in on a working holiday visa if you find an employer while you are there...give him a ring tomorrow and he'll brief you with all you need to know..costs about 3,500 quid to get in approx

hope this helps mate

Hi Mate

you will need an NVQ level 2 and at least 6 years experience all of which you will need proof for....You can fast track your NVQ but you will still need to prove your experiance to Trades Recognition Australia.

We have guys already booked in to do their NVQ course with us in January 2008. an ICA followed by an NVQ2 - and their off!

They have already done their research on this and this seems to be the way to go.

There are different stories flying all over the place as to what the entry criteria is, but having an NVQ is certainly a big tick in the box to help you get in.

Hi Mate,
i live on the Gold Coast of Australia (originally from Leeds) there is a shortage of skilled workers over here, i know of at least 5 people who have come here on a working holiday visa, and then got sponsored by a company, i also know that many tilers here do not have a australian liscence, but are working no problem, my son who is 18 as almost completed is Tiling apprenticeship in 18 months (he works for a tiler, and attends college 2 or 3 days per month just to do his asessments, you can also come to OZ on a working holiday visa and then do a study visa (check on line which courses are included) Queensland do make it a bit harder than other states for everything, but then again it is worth it, good luck

hey mate, I dont know what you have to do to get over here, but if you do want to work for yourself once you are here, you could just put an add in the local paper to get jobs. But because you don't have a licence, you are only allowed to do jobs that are under $1100 incl GST. That's what i would probably do, odd jobs here and there for travelling money. good luck
