| Re: On My Way To Oz | | Good luck to all of you, you have got to give it at least three years, if you get home sick don't come home until that three year period passes, it will unsettle you even more, trust me I emmigrated to New Zealand in 1987. One thing is for sure your going to a much better place, where pound for pound your money will go a lot further all the very best | | |

| Re: On My Way To Oz | | hi gareth
you'll be fine mate
sand and cement floor screeds are easy my friend.
datum line...measure each corner to the floor, find the highest point, dont let this be higher than the door way!!!
if on concrete, put a slurry mix down of water, pva glue and cement. brush this into all the floor.
then mix sharpe sand and cement at a ratio of 3 and 1 or 4 and 1. mix by hand for small areas . it needs to stick together if you scrunch it in your hand so avoid a cemnet mixer, it sticks to the sides ( large areas , get it delivered with a 4 hour retarder in).
right , now put a pat od sand and cement in one corner and one at the other end of the room. put your level on it and rub towards your self until level. fill in beween and rub up using a devil float. do the smae at the other side of the room. in affect you will have 2 parellel screeds at either sid eof the room. fill in between to about 3 ft , rule off towards yourself and then rub up until sflat with a poly, devil float, close in with a floor/plasteres trowel. keep doing this in 3 ft sections until you reach the door threshhold.
hope this makes sense, if not pm me. floor screeds are really easy mate, dont let them put you off. when u can do theae, outside work is easy. you'll be doing flaggin, block paving and all other projects that first looked difficult,, no worries as the aussies say :0) | | |
