Default Urgent! New Australia Criteria

hi

just got some bad news today.

i did a preliminary application for a skilled working visa for australia and today i got a phone call to say that as of 1st sept 2007, australia were not letting experienced workers emigrate on that criteria alone. even if you do a osat nvq2, as of 1/9/07, this wont be enough either...they only want time served ententured tradespeople ie proven apprenticeship with 900 hours college evidence (ie 2-3 years city and guilds / nvq2)

there is a chance that they may review the situation in a few months but as it stands, you wont get in now, with either 4 yrs continual experience or/and a osat nvq2.
my wife really had her heart set on going so theres an atmosphere in our house tonight on a par with mass funeral. i have even had to cook my own tea!!!

the guy at the emigration dept seems to think that this situation will change due to the expected drop in figures but when it happens is another matter.

i can see there point, they want good tradesman and thats fair enough. just have to be patient and try other ways. i would go to college 1 day a week for 2 years no problem. i could manage financially easily but knowing my luck, at the end of the 2 years aussy will will stopping letting in.

oh well, onwards and upwards hey

ed

If they had that kind of criteria here most of the tilers on this forum would be out as most trained on a four day or four week course. Hardly 'time' served, college trained or apprenticed. We can't have it both ways.

yeah but we were born here!!

any c*nt gets let in our country... most have no skills whatsoever and come for the free handouts they get.

we should take a leaf out of Australias book.

People should prove their worth to our country before being given benefits etc etc.

rant over lol...

Wow strong stuff and strong language!!! How many Brits are living and working in Spain taking Spanish jobs? How many Brits living and working in the Middle East taking Arab jobs? How many Brits living and working in France taking French jobs? HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS. not to mention dozens of years plundering India and the rest of the commonwealth. It's only fair we welcome people in here after all we've shafted other countries for years.

Thats all well and good, but can you emigrate to any of them countries and go straight onto a free home and money for nothing, I would take a guess thats its a big NO..
What we're getting at is having a propper skill that is in need to be let into the country.
We were born here so that dosen't come into it, we're on about criteria to get here in the first place.

I agree completely Fekin, but for different reasons, We haven't the resources to fund it all and we are overcrowded in the UK, too many people and not enough space so we should only admit those who have something to offer that we need. having said that their's nothing like competition to make people work harder, more efficient and give a better service. This isn't a political debate it's about people who say 'Im' alright Jack 'F--- You' without thinking about the background or reasons behind it.
Anyway this is way off tiling but I love a good banter so no offence anyone wer'e all different and have different opinions, that's OK as long as we can leave it as that and get on with the job. Does anyone know what kind of adhesive to use to stick imigration doors closed?

I'm gutted to hear that news. I see so many with hopes of getting out of this country and Oz is certainly one of the top few options for us here. I wouldn't stop there though mate, i'd just choose a different country to be honest.

I agree with the general opinion of all the above too. Our country is far too slack with our trades, 'they' seem to want to get the guys born here over-qualified to get jobs yet if you're not from here you tend to be able to jump into jobs. It's mad!
----
Just heard a friend of mine that's a welder managed to flee to Oz by blagging on his forms saying he was some kind of engineer or something. Maybe we're being too honest?
