I spent a year out there working as a tiler. The one problem you'll find, is that tiling is REALLY REALLY substandard there. I saw some horiffic tiling jobs. If you want to make yourself look good, then australia is awesome. If you really want to be good, then learn from english boys.

I'm not sure all those quals would be necessary as it would almost certainly be self employment. If you check out the availabilty of work out there you'll find its all apprenterships. I had a look ages ago and it certainly looks like they like to make use of the young lads then spit them out when they move up on wages, not unlike the UK was 15year ago.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! I cleaned houses for several years and the tiling sucks. Especially in the showers. They don't drain properly. C'mon over you guys and sort these cowboys out...some healthy competition is in order!

I tiled my kitchen floor (1st tiling job) and i recon it's better than a lot of the so called professional jobs i've seen.....and i'm a gal! I learned off the internet...just wish i could work this website better.

ps i've got some good marketing ideas for quality uk tilers! You could band together and clean up!

Totaly disagree with you Dave-T, im a geordie tiler, now living in sydney and the standard of tiling is far better here, first of all you have to be licenced here so it cuts out the cowboys. Not saying you are a crap tiler personely, dont know where you were working here, but my experiance 25 years reckon that the workmanship is good here. You dont have the problems of cutting around ****ty toilets and vanitys as the bathrooms are empty here except bath. , the walls are always top notch and the floors are always screeded with sand & cement, that goes a long way to doin the the perfect tiling job. anyway thats my thought, it would be a boring world if we all thought the same cheers carl
