Default tiling in australia

hi guys

does anybody know what the tiling industry is paying in australia at the moment??

i was looking at the gold coast and i saw tilers jobs going at around 48k - 60k (australian dollars) equating to 20k - 25k uk pounds...i was a bit surprised because i had head that a tiler could earn £45k in aus..

the prices being paid are quite average really. i know the cost of living is lower and the life style is better but its quite low wages for a skilled profession which aus is cryiung out for?

does anybody know any tilers living in aus on here, do we have any aussie tile memebers who could shed some light on the wages etc

ps before anybody says we are the polish of australia, let me remind you that we dont come cheap, and australia was ours to begin with, we only lent you it and we want it back seriously tho guys, go on google and type in 'queensland beaches' on the images tag and tell me you wouldnt be tempted...

Tilers here can earn anything from £30,000 to £50,000+ I could earn $48 to $ 60 taking it easy and i am not a tiler to trade all depends how much you want to work. As for the cost of living being a lot cheaper i don't think so. Property has gone through the roof here in Perth food is slightly more expensive but the beaches and the weather is great.

Hi I haven't lived in Oz for a while, but my friend lives in Sydney it took her 6mths to find a good tiler or should I say one who was recommended to her - the job was dreadful. So next time I'm over she's going to buy me my tools to fix it for her - only problem...she won't pay for the flight!

I have just got back from oz and the wages start from 30 bucks per hour but i haggled and got them to 50 with no arguements and that was only for the first week, then i demanded more and ended with on 75 bucks per hour , i was taking home anything between 2500 and 3800 per week depending on the gaffer.

Why come back if wages were so good Paul ?

I am applying for permanent residency as we have a little baby daughter now so your circumstances change, with regards to your visa.
If you have a temporary working visa like i had then you must leave if you have a dependant, it is a strange situation as i will be able to return in 4-5 mths time as soon as mine and my missus visas are completed.

dont worry mate i will be going back i hate it here.

But i understand where your coming from.

Another thing you will like is that if you work in a high rise the higher you go although the spec is the same the wages go up, like a danger money thing, cool eh!!!!

what part of aus, did you work in mate??

was the cost of living cheaper. i have been told that the supermarkets dont have the choice but they have more fresh produce and that it is cheaper than the uk but yet jeff in oz disagrees. i'm sure he knows more than me..

do you recommend a particular part of aus ie good work rate. queensland and perth look great

My wife spends roughly $250 per week on shopping but lot of other things are cheaper like car insurance is only $1100 for any driver over 25 this is for a new X5 i also have a Hyundai getz which costs $300 for any driver over 25 Rates here is also cheaper than your council tax i pay $1000 fuel is also half the price you pay in the UK but the average house price here in Perth is $500,000/$600,000 but if you want to live near the beach then you could pay over $1000000.
So it is swings and roundabouts between here and the UK for costs but the weather is great they have just had there worst winter here since records began and it was nothing compared to the UK.

Hope this helps.

Jeff
