i recon if you can tile the floor of a shower so it drains down the plug hole and water doesn't sit in pools to create mildew you would run rings around the majority of tilers in oz and you would be worth your weight in gold! Gold Coast, Qld (great place to live) has too many dodgey tilers in my opinion. I know so many people who are not satisfied with having to redo shower recesses because of leaking and sub standard jobs....how about grout that stays in between the tiles? That would be good too.

I'm not a tiler but i've clean a lot of houses, new and reno'd and i recon it would be great to have a flat floor and not tiles that sit up higher than others...maybe i'm just fussy.

Hi guys, just to clear things up I went to brisbane and the gold coast to work which is only 40 mins away from each other, there is quite a bit of work and you dont really bump into an out an out tiler as they are mainly multi skilled this is easily spotted due to there setting out always with a full tile in the corner regardless. The food in coles and woolworths these are the main shopping places is pretty expensive i feel anyway a bottle of vittel water is 3.50 bucks which is around £1.60 which is about 70pence more expensive than here. beer is around 10-20 pound more expensive a case or carton as they call it. The cost of accomodation is cheap compaired to here, you get a lot for your money for 180k you get a 320m2 house with land and a pool in pacific pines between brisbane and gold coast that is brand new. In melbourne the same house is only 80k in perth it would be about 220k so you can shop around for good prices and there are many things you can do to purchase your land and house. I have a deal with my builder for when i get back because he cant get a tiler! end of! the people are just not there. As for tanking in wet areas, they have the joiners do it! crazy i know but why? because the tilers they get just cant do it as they are jobbers and not specilised in our field. I also visited sydney and melbourne. i didnt go to perth as it is a lot more chilled out than the east and isnt my cup of tea. But you are right i would swap liverpool for oz any day but the move is hard when you have a young family mate.

thanks for the email regards aus. my wife and i are really really grateful for what you did. i think my wife you be your new pen pal from now on because shes sold on moving to queensland. so much so the house is going up for sale next month and she has started the ball rolling with regards to applying for a visa. gayle with for the civil service in the immagration dept , so she will be looking at doing similar work in aus.

can you use your englisg power tools in aus?? i know they use 230v but is the plug the same or is it better to buy new power tools over there??

Sorry, that was meant to be a table. To best explain that mess, the figures are average, low and high results from a survey carried out on tiling contractors. For example, the Hourly Rate for Qualified Trade Staff is ($29 average) ($20 low) ($40 high). I think that it is pretty accurate. Hope that helps
