Hello Lee. Sorry to say that you are not the only one with that idea, absolutely not.
I have several customers working in spain but only for seasons. No one is living there because living standard is high and costs and payment is low.
For example: A
tiler had intended to work on Teneriffa for a while getting for sure 1.000 Euro net per month but his flat where he has to live costs already over 600 Euro per month.
If you realy intend to work over there better get first in contact with someone rich who is having works to do at his houses/flats for a few weeks/months. After that you can decide better.
