For my two-penneth, if the floor isn't huge I would work my way through a range of sand papers - start with fine grade and work through to extra fine / wet&dry to give a uniform finish. Clean away all dust and slurry and seal properly with a good quality penetrating sealer.

If the floor is large, then it may be best to call in a professional!
