If you are looking to gain a qualification in tiling at level 2 to progress you to NVQ then the ICA is the route you will need, there is no other short term option available. If you have time on your side then there is every chance that a 6 week non qualification course will provide you with sufficient skills to get started in the tiling industry but you would need to be at least 3 years in the industry before gaining an NVQ. At the end of the day, be careful where you book. Make sure your chosen centre is accredited in one way or another.
I have to disagree with you there as your choice of words are very much incorrectly placed. I am not going to be unprofessional and make silly remarks as I would imagine that the majority of people on this forum have neither NVQ'S OR attended an ICA centre to train but i very much doubt thats because they would be "unable to cope with it" as you so boldly stated.
I will say that to hold an ASET Approval you must show quality assurance systems are in place and that the training is ABOVE standard and that you are willing to be audited annually on your systems and course delivery.
I agree that should you wish to gain NVQ'S Rapidly then go down the ICA route but personally I feel that students should concentrate on getting more practical expeirence before hand, then think about gaining there NVQ'S at a later stage although more and more centres are heading towards the ICA these days due to goverment / market pressures etc. One of the main reasons we have avoided this route so far is because of the amount of theory / paperwork involved and We pride ourselves on being a HANDS ON centre and the most important part of our training is to insure students learn how to tile firstly so they can earn a living regardless of what quals they may receive
