Default Urgent help required ASAP Please

    Hi,

We have been renovating our bathroom for a few weeks now, and we went for a wetroom option.

Our tiler is due to start tomorrow.

We have put down an Impey Aquadeck Shower Tray, and the next step is to lay the Tilesafe membrane I believe.

We were given the Tilesafe membrane free of charge from our plumber who had some left from a previous job.

However, the only things he gave us were as follows:

1 Big Roll of Tilesafe Membrane

    1 Roll of Jointing tape.

The tiler we are using asked us how he would lay this as the Tilesafe didn't seem to be sticky enough.

After doing some research on the Internet, it appears we also need the Tilesafe Primer, Jointing Compound and Putty.

Can I purchase these seperately from anywhere?

Or is the Primer simply an Acrylic Primer and will a generic brand suffice.

I also have another question regarding gaps on either side of the tray, but I will first take some photo's before seeking further advice.

    Thanks in advance.

For any product to meet warranty claims and perform as it was intended you must use all items as instructed by the maker of the membrane. Using any type of primer would invalidate any warranty.
I suggest you obtain the correct materials and make sure the area is water tight.

Oh and if the tilesafe membrane you have is not sticky enough i suggest it could have been stored for a while because its one of the stickiest things i have known.

Thanks for the prompt responses guys.

    I live in South Manchester.

So based on the above, would you definitely advise me to use the Tilesafe primer?

I am sure I read on this forum somewhere that the Primer supplied wasn't very good....

Tiesafe primer is what they supply and that is what you must use to meet their warranty requirements. I have used it before with no problems.
You will need the corners fitted 1st, You will need the tilesafe membrane on roll which is laid along the floor and up the wall and then lay the main floor. Alll joints overlaid with jointing tape and the supplied silicione type stuff (NOT SILICONE SEALANT, as this will destroy the membrane). The putty is used around any pipes you should have protruding through the membrane and then tape around the hole.
It sounds as you dont have a full kit.

    Thanks for your reply.

I don't have the whole kit. All I have is two rolls of membrane, one for the edges and one for the main floor.

Does anybody know if the primer and sealant etc. can be purchased seperately?

you might have to trail around your local tile shops today if your tiler is booked tomorrow. Give him a ring today, He might be able to tell you where to go or worst senario he might have a 'fill in' job to give you more time to sort it so no one loses time and money!
