You will be suprised to know that GLASS as a working material is actually very SOFT.
So drill life will be more than we predict for porcelain tiles. In fact these drills should last up to ten times longer when used on soft materials like glass or ceramic tiles.
Cant give you an accurate figure becaue there is a wild variance in drilling factors like operator skill, drill speed, use of water and material thickness.
But I would suggest a drill lifespan of at least 40 to 50 cuts in standard glass tiles running at 9mm thick.
As well as installers like plumbers and tilers we actually sell to a another whole range of installers dealing with aquariums. Glass is king in the aquatic world for seeing the little fishes and so drilling fish tanks and aquariums is more common that even I predicted.
We wrote an article about cutting a glass pane
Above and below are some examples we use on aquarium forums to show how to drill a hole into a fish tank or glass tank.
If any reader of this post wants more info then the full article on drilling aquariums is available at our
dedicated website here
We also get a lot of
great comments and articles on aquarium websites.
So yes glass tiles are no problems for diamond drills and the good news is the results are perfect, breakages are eliminated, and the cost is minimal.
Just remember to apply the same rules as for porcleain tiles. Drill slowly. Use minimal pressure. Use some water. Take your time.
