    Default Dotting & dabbing

I've got a job to start today, but i whent to talk to the guy last night, and check the walls out again since the wall paper has been removed. the walls are quite bad with loose plaster and channels cut out for new shower pipes 7 wires. so im going to dot n dab it all. but my question is do i have to screw the plaster board to wall as well as dot n dab compound. also where do i get the dot n dab compound.

    cheers

plaster board adhesive is avalable from wicks to dot and dab you need to remove some old plaster and put board adhesive in to the place where you have removed the plaster and dot & dab your board to line up with the adhesive on the wall (do not dot & dab on to the old plaster it all may come down).

or screw battons on the wall and screw the plasterboard to the battons

Use a nice straight edge to tap the boards flat as well....flat walls make easy tiling...

Just dot and dabbed a wall today, first time ever as it happens too.

I'd taken the old tiles off and the walls were a bit messy, not much plaster left at all, looked like the walls have had a cement screed on first or something, then a very thin plaster coat, only 1 or 2 mil if that, and the old tiles had taken off over 70% of the plaster.
Anyway, walls were quite uneven so I opted to plasterboard the wall.
Just bought a 20 kg of plasterboard bonding cement and mixed it quite thick and put medium fist sized lumps all over the board, spaced out roughly every 20cm so once the bonding cement compresses I should have near 100% coverage, held it to the wall and pressed on firmly, then layed the next board firmly then took my 4ft spirit level and basically whack the boards like hell going up and down making sure both boards lay level to each other.

    Stuck on like a treat.

Im no expert on the bonding strengths, but if using upto medium sized ceramics then no drilling should be needed.

I've just done this as Dave and some of the others know from a post the other day - my first time dottting and dabbing as well. I found using a rubber mallet (normally for laying paving slabs) against the straight edge worked a treat - not sure what the neighbours thought of it though!! Now on my third row of tiles and everything's going ok at the moment - so thanks again lads for the advice.
