    Default Starting out!

    Hi guys,

looking for a bit of guidance more than anything, as its best the professionals dishing it out than anything else.

As some of you know i have just finished my tiling course and done my own bathroom in the thread here http://www.tilersforums.co.uk/tiling...ab-tiling.html

I currently have a part time job, which is only 27.5 hours, I intend to keep that for the time being.(royal mail)

The issue that I have is building myself so I have the confidence and experience to serve the general public (if you like).

At the moment iam far from a pro tiler and I wouold feel very uncomfortable offering services as I would hate to take on a job I couldnt do, or make a complete arse of a job for being out my depth.

My plan is to do small jobs for friends or family, maybe work collegues just to build up my confidence and skills, I would hate the thought of paying for the course and not doing anything with it.

Once I have done various jobs and built myself up a bit more, concentrating on a marketing plan to get word around, get myself noticed and then introduce myself with local tradesmen etc.

    What do you all think?

    Any advice appreciated..

    greg

Sounds like a good plan to me. while you are doing the jobs for friends and family use the payment (if any) you get to invest in tools and business cards that way you are building up everything you need for when you start full time.

Dealing with the public is hard at first but always remember people are just people the same as me and you so don't be scared and remember your the expert.

    Good Luck

Hi Greg, i like your style and wish you well. hang on to that job until teh time is right to move and not before.

You cant beat experience, whether its for yourself or family/friends. Its all a learning curve and you will never stop learning.

Ideas ! contact other local tilers and simply ask for works experience but dont give it away.
Maybe some tilers here that are local could give you a day or two to accelerate your experience.

stick with the day job and all you can do is practice when ever you can find the work. Don't work free though, they'll expect it all the time!
