hi dont use pva to prime///// you should waterproof or membrane the shower walls first is plasterboard normal or water resistant i would use acrilic as primer waterproof then tile hope that helps

Plasterboard is perfect for tiling straight onto, but do not use PVA, give the plasterboard a good coating of acrylic primer and away you go, though tanking the walls is always a better idea if the customer is willing to stand the cost.

with the others on this mate, primer NOT PVA...most of the good tubbed stuff contains acrylic primer but it's bound to be dusty,,tell the plasterer 'respectfully' things are done differently now.
Try to persuade the customer to have it tanked, worth it for peace of mind..imo

unskimmed plasterboard is one of the best substrates to tile on,
but i would recommend a tanking system in wet areas..
i know it an extra expence but, if the benifits are clearly explained to the customer most will take you up on you sensible offer!

as a company we build in tanking into meterage rate, it makes no sence not to do it!
    its quick, simple and lasts!!!!
you can paint the first coat on, tile an opposite wall then paint the second coat on...easy peesy..and no real labour cost, just the materials!
    IMO.

and i am talking over baths and basins, not a full tanking job!

dagger - amortizing the tanking cost into the sq mtr cost in wet areas is so blinking obvious when you say it ... a no brainer idea! ... nice one dagger ... thx
