Default Newbie after advice

HiGuys

I did a week tiling course lastweek with the view to going into it full time. However i want to do a few jobs on the side first to build up some confidence.

I have a kitchen floor to do which i have removed the lino on, toreveal what looks like a hardboard base. Is it fine to tile onto this or do i still need to ply it as i was taught?

Thank you in advance

Jason
