Default Which Primer?

Hi, Am I correct in assuming that a primer such as Ardex P51/BAL APD is necessary for bonding to the substrate, when using cementitious adhesives and a PVA primer for ready mixed adhesive. Could someone explain the differance between BAL SBR & APD. Thanking You, Jeff
