Default New Layout - Good/Bad?

Just wondering if the changes I made whilst half asleep were a good move?

I thought the comments made about the size of the forum had value and thought i'd try and improve the navigation a bit. So rather than having a stack of forums on the homepage we now have active sub-forums instead.

What do you think?
