Hi there mate, you should contact the clown who said this is alright and tell them the answers you got from us lot, one thing i would never do id dot and dab it's a definate no no! Think of allthe gaps behind the tiles if something should fall against them they would be damaged whereas with normal application of adhesive there is far less chance of damage
