Firstlt you need to make sure you're using adhesive to fix the tiles with. And it needs to be one that's tough enough to stick to the wood. You might find it much better using plywood for the backing of it - though you'll still need a flexible adhesive that will bond to wood. You'll also need a small bag of flexible grout afterwards to grout the tiles with once they're fitted - which is what that bits for.

Try to find a local
CTD Tiles store and pop in there to get yourself some Mapei adhesive and grout. Say tilersforums.co.uk has sent you and they may give you a discount - though I'm guessing it will be a small order so don't rest your heart on it - just feel proud of your job once it's done and you did it right in the end!
