Default egg box wall???

The customers new bath on the job i'v started today, is a bit wider than the room, so its been recessed into the wall. The plasterer left the recess in a right mess, he used three diferent pieces of 10mm plasterboard on the shower wall, an area of 800x1800, Only attatched down the sides, with roofing felt nails, i'v stripped that replaced it with backer board securley. The small return was damp in 4 places going up the wall and the plaster board only was attached in these places with 4 big dollops of bonding plaster. Inside the wall looks like a egg box. What would be the best way of repairing this small return ready for tiles. Any advice will be apprieciated.
